Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
These verses show that a soul is not special to humans, but all life that has breath is a soul.
And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
These verses show that a souls is a living being, not seperate from the body.
Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
These verses show that the person, the soul, dies and returns to the dust of the earth.
Psa 104:29Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.
Psa 104:30Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. (the Breath shall return to the Father, not the ghost of a person)
His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
This passage gives us an example of what will happen to each of us as we die and what will happen when Christ returns and raises us from the sleeping dead.
This passage did not say these men were not immortal. That is given on judgement day to those of us who Believe in Christ, have the Faith OF Christ, and keep the commandments.

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
We will not gain immortality until the 1st resurrection when Christ bestows us with the gift of life eternal. Just being rasied from the dead doesn't give us etneral life. The Lord will raise every man from the dead, ONLY the faithful will be gifted eternal life.

1Co 15:54So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Soul is speaking of a person, not a ghost
Eze 18:3As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.
Eze 18:4Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Eze 18:19Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.
Eze 18:20The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
Eze 18:21But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Eze 18:22All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live
