Did you know that what we've been taught about HELL is false?

Updated: May 16, 2023

We've been taught that "HELL" is an everlasting burning pit of fire that our lost loved ones, and evil people are in today. That they are being forever tormented for all eternity. We are taught that we have a separate being, a soul, a ghost, a spirit inside of us that leaves upon death and is immediately rewarded with heaven or punished in hell upon our earthly deaths.

NO WHERE in scriptures is this depicted.
Then where did this notion come from?

Spirituality (belief that a person is a spirit experiencing a human life, that a spirit can leave the body) began during the rise of the 5th century.
In 553AD May 5th to June 2nd the Catholic Church began the "Hell" doctrines under the Council of Constantinople taking on more greek mythology in their teachings. This meeting was convened and called by Emperor Justinian.
In 1308AD a fictional image was drawn by Dantes inferno. In this painting there were many levels of torture in what we have been taught as Hell.

We have to keep in mind and understand that our religion, our documents, our scriptures have all be influenced by the Greek and Roman beliefs. Scriptures were translated into English in 1611 in the KJV version of the Bible. There were many generations of false teachings, beliefs, and practices by then, and even more now.

If we read and study the scriptures as they are written in the KJV the Lord can still reveal the TRUTH to us. We just have to set aside our imbedded understandings and beliefs to receive the truth.

Let's move past the FICTION of the worldly and religious leaders and get to the NON FICTION of the scriptures:

When we die we sleep the sleep of death until the 1st or 2nd resurrection. We stay in the grave asleep until Christ returns for us. We do NOT have a spirit to be nor can be freed from our bodies. See my article about this for more.

Did you know that hell, grave, and sheol all mean the same thing? They all mean the grave. The translators of the 1611 KJV Bible chose to use different English words to depict the same Hebrew or Greek words used in Scriptures.

H7585- seol (sheol) grave

G1087-geenna- Hell Fire

G86-Hades- Grave

Here are some scriptures that use the same word in different ways.

H7585

Isaiah 14:9 the word Hell is used from H7585

Isaiah 14:11 the word grave is used from H7585

There are more that 30 scriptures that uses H7585 as hell, and more that 30 that uses the same word H7585 as grave.

I recommend that you use the Blue Letter Bible and search this word to verify what I'm saying.

G1087-geenna- Hell Fire: these scriptures are speaking of the 2nd death. This will happen after Christ returns, takes the saved with him for 1000 years, returns, raises the wicked from the dead, and then casts His eternal flame over them. This will appear as a lake of fire. Each person, demon angel, and Satan will be totally destroyed. Each will burn for the length of time due their lifes actions, deeds, works. So a person who harmed no one but didn't have the faith of Christ nor kept the commandments would not burn as long as someone who did cause harm to others. Satan will burn for the longest amount of time as he has harmed millions.

No one will be on fire for all eternity.

Let's get some background on Geenna or Gehenna.

Back in Biblical time the folks then knew about Gehenna. This was their landfill where they placed all their waste products. They would even through dead bodies of criminals and animals in this landfill. They lit this landfill on fire to destroy the waste.

Christ used this as a real life example to describe what would happen to the wicked at the 2nd death. This was relatable to those folks.

For more on the 1st and 2nd resurrection and 2nd death see my other article.

Scriptures that use G1067 are:

Matthew 5:22,29,30

Matthew 10:28

Matthew 18:9

Matthew 23:15,33

Matthew 23:33

Mark 9:43,45,47

Luke 12:5

James 3:3

G86-Hades- Hell or Grave

Where did Hades originate from?

Greek mythology, it says Hades was the son of the Titans Cronus and Rhea, and the bother of Zeus, Poseidon, Demeter, Hera, and Hestia. Hades was known to the greeks as the Lord of the Underworld. Hades Roman name was Pluto.

Can you now see that Greek and Roman influence was upon the translators of the 1611 KJV Bible? Can you see that they are still a heavy part of our teachings today?

There are just a few verses that use Hades for grave. They are:

Matthew 11:23

Matthew 16:29

Luke 10:15

Luke 16:23

Acts 2:27,31

1 Corinthians 15:55

Revelation 1:18

Revelation 6:8

Revelation 20:13,14

Now we also need to understand that everlasting punishment means it is final (no turning back, no second chances, no coming back from) and the last stage of existence, not that anyone will be tormented for all eternity. Although scripture uses G166 which is translated as eternal or everlasting, the Lord describes this punishment as having a ending.

Malachi 4:1-4 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be askes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts. Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.

If we can let go of all the Catholic, Protestant, and false teachings to get to the truth this will please our Father. He is calling us out of Babylon, out of the belly of the beast so that we do not have to suffer the same punishment as those who do not want to let go of those false doctrines, beliefs, and laws.
