What does it mean to be adopted into or grafted into the family of God?

Updated: Jun 18, 2023

What makes us part of Abraham seed? to be adopted into it?
These are those who believe and obey. Children of the Promise.
If we are adopted into the family, we have to adopt that way of life.
No different than if we adopt a child we teach that child our way of life, they do not get a pass to live how they choose.

It says that Gentiles that believe and obey have been grated in or adopted into the family. These are also children of the Promise.
That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

Rom 11:17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; Rom 11:18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.

The Bible describes only 2 types of people Jews and Gentiles. Those who follow, believe, and obey the Father and those who don't.
Of course there's sects of people in those categories Priests, Pharisees, Sadducees, servants, and common folks for the Jews. For the Gentiles there's Royals, Government leaders, soldiers, priests, servants, and common folks. But in the end they are all categorized as either a Jew or a Gentile.

Let's start in the Old Testament when strangers (gentiles) sojourned with the Israelites (jews). They were accepted and treated as equals IF they abided by the same belief, law, rules, and way of life.
Lev 19:34 The Stranger who resides with you shall be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.
Exo 23:9 You shall not oppress a sojourner. You know the heart of a sojourner, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
Lev 24:22 You shall have the same rule for the sojourners and for the native, for I am the Lord your God.
Exo 12:49 There shall be one law for the native and for the stranger who sojourns among you.
Deu 10:19 Love the sojourner, therefore, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
So we learn from the old testament that Jew and the Gentile had to keep the same rules. It was clearly written this is the will of the Lord.

Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
This verse tells us that the Lord would not expect us to change the way of life and belief unless he has given the command or expectation by way of the prophets in the Old Testament. Meaning if we were supposed to change the law, remove the law or otherwise not follow his commandments he would have said by way of a prophet.

There is NO prophecy that says the Lord would release us from following or keeping his commandments.

Let's move on to the New Testament
Christ kept all the commandments of the Father. He was sinless. Sin is the breaking of the Law of God. This allowed for Him, Christ to become our ultimate and final sacrifice, our lamb.

It also dictated that He, Christ became our High Priest when the Father said at his Baptism "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased". Mat 3:17
If we do the research we would find that this statement was made to the new High Priest when put into office in the Levitical Priesthood.

What does it mean to be a child of the Promise?

Christ, Paul, John and others taught in agreement. 3 key things must occur To be saved we must have faith in Christ, the faith of Christ, and keep the commandments by faith. The Spirit will lead us to want to keep the commandments out of love of each other and the love of the Father and Son.
Salvation has always been given to the faithful of heart, not by those who keep the law outwardly.
Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Christ.
Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Phl 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith.
Rom 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference.
Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

These verses say we must have the Faith of Christ, not faith in Christ. So what did Christ believe because our faith must match his according to scriptures.

Let's look at Mat 5:1-Mat 7 Christ teaches from the old testament. In this sermon Christ explains that it is not just about keeping the law for others to see, it is also about what you believe inside. A desire to keep the law from the heart. Our actions are a direct reflection of our beliefs. If we are to produce good works/deeds/fruit what shall they be? To keep the commandments. where do I find them? Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Numbers
because faith is dead without works Jas 2:17, 26

Christ says he doesn't bring his will, but the will of the Father.
Jhn 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
Jhn 14:10-11 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works sake.
This article explains what the WILL of the Father is:

Christ responded to a question by the Pharisees (the Biblical law interpreters) he was asked what is the greatest commandment (from the old testament). Christ responded with
Mat 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord they God with all thy heart, and with all they soul, and with all thy mind. (Deu 6:5) This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself (Lev 19:18). On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

And Paul explains to follow what Christ said to do we will keep the law of the Father out of love.
Rom 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Rom 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Christ said to live as he lived Luk 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Christ taught the people to Keep the law of the Father. Christ lived a life by keeping the Law of the Father. Christ died because his belief was firm in the Law of the Father, and the Father asked him to be the ultimate lamb sacrifice for the world. His faith in the Father and His Laws is what allowed him to be resurrected.
Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit (pneuma-wind/breath) of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
1Pe 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

So we have established that the WILL of the Father is for both Jews and Gentiles, and we are to keep the same law.
We have also established that the Father or Christ has not released us from keeping the law of the Father.
If we are adopted into the family of the Father (grafted in) we are expected to also have the Faith of Christ and keep the commandments of the Father.
This article gives more detail into the faith of Christ:

For those of you who are stuck on the writings of Paul and feel that he gave converted gentiles permission to not keep the law I suggest you watch this series, and it will help you understand what Paul was teaching. Paul did not oppose the teachings of Christ.
If he did, it would make the scriptures void and of no meaning, and an antichrist.

This video series goes through Pauls teachings and explains it to you:

This article explains Pauls teachings, is there a difference between the Fathers and the Son's commandments:

We have been taught false doctrines through every branch of protestant faiths, through Catholic faith, and through pagan faiths. We have been manipulated, scriptures have been misinterpreted, and our religious leaders have been leading us down the wrong path.
IF you have a desire to learn TRUTH, to follow CHRIST, and to put yourself and beliefs aside to gain the Faith of Christ you will see me at the 1st resurrection when Christ returns.

If you want to know how false doctrines will affect eternity read this article:

Christ is the TRUTH, the WAY, and the LIFE Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
