Should I keep Sunday or Saturday as the Lord's Holy Day?

Updated: Mar 18, 2023

Would you ignore the evidence presented to you and continue the way you were, or would you change what you believe?

Do you believe what scriptures say or what your pastor says?

What are your core religious beliefs?

What scripture do you base your core beliefs on?

Do you base your beliefs on 1 or 2 verses or the whole Chapter?

Is it just what you’ve always been taught, and you’ve not verified it yourself?

Do you add meaning to passages, things that are not written, but inserted by your own understanding?

Why do we allow men to tell us what to believe? Why don’t we ourselves test and prove all things according to scriptures? 1 Timothy 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Who do you think the Bible was written to? The old testament was written to the orthodox jews and the new testament to the converted jews now called messianic Jews and converted gentiles. It is intended for Messianic Jews and converted Gentiles who want to follow Christ, live as He lived, and gain eternal life.

I believe that if each of us would throw away what we think we know, start studying the Bible after a sincere prayer to reveal truth, and dedicate the time with an open heart we would all find the same truth that is staring us right in the face in scriptures.

We are in denial. We can read yet don’t comprehend or listen. Why is that!? Why do we make up reasons why the words on the page mean something different than what it actually says?

I’ll give you an easy example to search and prove, minimal controversy. What day is the Sabbath day of the Lord, the day we are to honor God, not work, and rest? Find it in the Bible, not by mans text or knowledge.

Scriptures say the 7th day which is Saturday. Your denomination says the 1st day of the week which is Sunday.

Why do we honor Sunday as the day of rest when scriptures plainly say it’s Saturday?

Is it because it’s easier to follow the crowd? Because your pastor made a convincing argument? Maybe we’ve just never thought about it before, because we don’t read the Bible like we should.

They tell you to go to Church on Sunday, and to rest on Sunday, have set it as a federal day of rest for government employees, and have blues laws active on Sunday in some states. They don't say don't buy or sell this day, but attend a Church as part of your day.

They say we do this because God began creation on a Sunday, according to the pastors beliefs Christ rose from the Dead on a Sunday, and because a couple guys were documented in scriptures to have preached on a Sunday. This is why we observe Sunday as the day of rest instead of Saturday. Not because the Lord changed and asked us to.

While most these statements are true statements, the bottom line is The Father NOR Christ asked us to change the day of the week that we observe as the weekly day of rest; the day the Father sanctified and made Holy therefore we do not have the power to override what the Father has said and designated a new day to be Holy!

Do you know these are the same reasons the Catholic church tells their flocks. They also boast that those who follow this tenant show their submission to the authority of the Catholic church, because they changed the rule not the Father. They claim to have the power to alter, change, add, or remove Gods commands.

Catholic Literature:

“Our Sunday Visitor 02/05/1950” “Protestants do not realize that by observing Sunday, they accept the Authority of the Spokesperson of the church, the Pope.”
“Cardinal Gibbons, In Faith of our Fathers 92nd Edition, pg 89”
“You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we {the Catholic Church} never sanctify.”
“Lucius Ferraris Prompta Bibliotheca Article ‘Papa’ II, Vol VI pg 29
“The Bishop of Rome is of so great authority and power that he can modify, explain, or interpret even divine laws…The Bishop of Rome can modify divine law, since his power is not of man, but of god and he acts as Vicegerent [representative] of god upon earth.”

H.F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons-QUOTE
“Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change [Saturday sabbath to Sunday] was her act…and the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things.” (at the Council of Laodicia in 336AD)

Catholic Record of London, Ontario= Sept 1. 1923
“Sunday is our Mark of Authority….The Church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact.”

The Catholic Mirror, Official Publication of James Cardinal Gibbons, Sept 23, 1893
“The catholic Church….By virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday.”

The Church Fathers on the Lord’s Day
Here are three quotes from a few of the Church fathers on worshipping on the first day of the week:

Let us therefore no longer keep the Sabbath after the Jewish manner…. But let every one of you keep the Sabbath after a spiritual manner, and rejoicing after the observance of the Sabbath, let every friend of Christ keep the Lord’s Day as a festival, the resurrection-day, the queen and chief of all the days.”

“We keep the eighth day with joyfulness, the day on which Jesus rose again from the dead.”

“But Sunday is the day which we all hold our common assembly, because Jesus Christ, our Saviour, on the same day rose from the dead,” (Justin, I Apol. 67:PG 6,429 and 432).
From the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC):

#2174 — Jesus rose from the dead “on the first day of the week.” Because it is the “first day,” the day of Christ’s Resurrection recalls the first creation. Because it is the “eighth day” following the Sabbath, it symbolizes the new creation ushered in by Christ’s Resurrection. For Christians it has become the first of all days, the first of all feasts, the Lord’s Day (he kuriake hemera, dies dominica) Sunday.
Interlinear note for 2174 — “We all gather on the day of the sun, for it is the first day [after the Jewish Sabbath, but also the first day] when God, separating matter from darkness, made the world; and on this same day Jesus Christ our Savior rose from the dead”9.
#2175 — Sunday is expressly distinguished from the Sabbath which it follows chronologically every week; for Christians its ceremonial observance replaces that of the Sabbath. In Christ’s Passover, Sunday fulfills the spiritual truth of the Jewish Sabbath and announces man’s eternal rest in God. For worship under the Law prepared for the mystery of Christ, and what was done there prefigured some aspects of Christ.
#2178 — This practice of the Christian assembly dates from the beginnings of the apostolic age…

I encourage you to read through their reasons and see if they match the reasons you've been taught. I bet they do!! And all agree that the Lord did not sanctify Sunday, The Lord has only EVER asked for us to observe the 7th day Sabbath for worship and rest.

Verses that tell us to Keep the commandments. NOTE it does not say to keep the ones you want.
Exodus 20:8-11 and backed up by Hebrews 4:3-11 verse 4 mentions the 7th day of rest and verse 8 says if there were another day Christ would have spoken of another day of rest.

And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

1Jo 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1Jo 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1Jo 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

Therefore shall ye keep my commandments, and do them: I am the LORD.

The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.

2Ki 17:13 Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.
Neh 1:9 But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
Pro 3:1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
Pro 4:4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
Pro 7:2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye

And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Jhn 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
TOOLS Jhn 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

So now that you have evidence directly from the Catholics and from Scriptures, will you continue to observe Sunday as the Lords day, or will you follow the commandment of the Father and the Son and observe Saturday?

Most will respond by saying, we no longer have to follow the laws of the Old testament. My response is that was what you were taught, but not what the Bible says.
Mat 19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
Mat 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. (This passage clearly says THE commandments, the rest of the Bible had not yet been written so he was talking about the old testament laws. There is much confusion about the writings of Paul, this video series will help you understand that Paul was not an antichrist speaking against the Lord and his requests to followers.)

We will not be granted immunity by our ignorance and unbelief. We all have the same opportunity to learn the truth. It is all written in the scriptures.

This whole thought of the Lord knows my heart, I can continue to live the way that I am, the way I feel is right, and I will still get eternal life is a lie. That we will not be judged by what we do, our deeds, our works…LIE LIE LIE!!!

We will not be judged by what is in our hearts alone, BUT our works will also be viewed and accounted for.
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and the grave delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

Why by our works? Because what we believe shows in what we do.

Given the evidence in this article; Will you change your day of worship and rest?

  • Change to Saturday

  • Stick with the Catholics on Sunday
