Which Day is the 7th Day Sabbath?

Updated: Mar 9, 2023

I did this research a few years ago so that I would know for myself if Saturday was the day the Lord intended on us to Observe His and our day of rest.

I will go through the research again. I'm sure the sources will be different than my first search, but will look at all the angles I did last time. The first article has information I found in several different places in my last search. Since I found it all in one article I didn't do an in depth search. If you want to feel free.

I follow what the Bible says.

I found all the below listed infomation on different sites the first time, but this found it in one location. You should verify the information instead of taking my word or this persons word on the matter.

English-speaking countries call the seventh day Saturday, but the word for that day in many languages indicates its origins as the biblical day of rest. For example, the seventh day in Spanish is called Sabado (coming from the Hebrew shabbat). This too is made plain on printed calendars in those languages.
If the sequence had gotten all jumbled up sometime between the first day of rest and the Exodus of Israel out of Egypt, the true seventh day was clearly reestablished by the time the Ten Commandments were given.

In the wilderness, God fed the people of Israel with manna. The manna would appear on the ground every day except the seventh day, the day of rest (Exodus 16:14-30). This sequence would repeat every seven days, over and over for 40 years. The weekly cycle of manna only stopped when Israel entered the promised land. Four decades of repetition is plenty of time to clearly establish which day was the day of rest.

Jesus Christ, the very Word of God, put off the glory He shared with the Father and was born a flesh and blood human being. He was the “Lord of the Sabbath” (Matthew 12:1-8; Mark 2:23-28; Luke 6:1-5). Jesus would have known if He, or His fellow Jews, had the sequence of the seventh day messed up.

The record of Jesus’ life shows He rested on the seventh day in obedience to the commandment (John 15:10). Jesus observed the day of rest on the same day of the week as His fellow Jews. The religious authorities of the day may have disputed what types of activities were appropriate for observing the seventh day as a day of rest, but not which day of the week it was.

It's possible to consider that isolated pockets of Jews may have lost track of the weekly cycle due to some local turmoil, but such an error would have quickly been corrected by comparing notes with the many other Jewish communities in other countries and continents—communities which had not experienced any interruption or disruption in the seven-day weekly cycle.
However, there isn’t any historical record of any dispute among any Jewish groups that the day we call Saturday is the seventh day of the weekly cycle, God’s day of rest. The Jewish people have successfully kept the original seven-day weekly cycle intact.

From 46 B.C. up to A.D. 1582, the Western world used what is called the Julian calendar. It was a vast improvement over the previous Roman calendars because it finally kept the months in sync with the seasons. However, after many centuries even the Julian calendar was about 10 days out of sync with the solar system.

In 1582 the old Julian calendar was replaced with the new, improved Gregorian calendar, which is the calendar system we still use today. At the time of the change to the new calendar system, those 10 days were simply dropped out of the calendar to get the dating system of the calendar back in sync with the solar system. It was Thursday, Oct. 4, 1582, and the next day, Friday, should have been Oct. 5. However, the new calendar made the next day Oct. 15 instead.

That change had no impact on the seven-day weekly cycle. Whether that following Friday was numbered as the 5th of the month or the 15th of the month, it was still the sixth day of the week, and the day that followed was still the seventh day of the week.

Even today we regularly add a day into our calendar every four years. We call it a “leap year.” Changing the number of days in a calendar month does not alter the weekly cycle—there is no six-day week, or eight-day week.

Since scripture says a week is 7 days long (Genesis 2:2-3) (Exodus 12:16) and does not corelate with to the cycle of the Month marked by the moon. The current secular calendar is correct, in that the days of week are still accurate. Of course the months are all jumbled up, but scriptures said the AntiChrist/1st beast will attempt to change times and laws, which the Catholic Church set the current calendar in motion, and selected Sunday as the day of rest in 325AD.
I have faith that the Father kept the days of the week in place for us so that it would not be difficult for us to keep the Sabbath day. It is our choice to follow his commands or not. Just as he kept the scriptures mostly intact for us to reference. I say that because there are books mentioned in our Bible that are not in our Bible. We have 66 books in our Bible, but that is a whole other story.

How Days are Measured in the Bible?
First, in Genesis 1:2, God established the definition of a day, beginning at sunset and going to the next sunset. The only day named in the Bible is the Sabbath. All other days of the week are named in relation to the Sabbath. God blessed the Sabbath day and set it aside as a holy day for His people.
First Day after Sabbath = Sunday
Second Day after Sabbath = Monday
Third Day after Sabbath = Tuesday
Fourth Day after Sabbath = Wednesday
Fifth Day after Sabbath = Thursday
Sixth Day after Sabbath = Friday
How Weeks are Measured in the Bible?
Next, by Genesis 2:2, the week is defined as containing seven days. Exodus 20:11 confirms the weekly schedule for God’s people: six days for work and one day to rest and remember.

I do not agree with the sunset to sunset as they say, and SDA and Jewish people say Genesis 1:2 says. The day had not yet been separated from the night in that verse.

The very next verse said Let there be light. And the Lord worked in the daylight and then said in vs 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. So he worked during the day, the evening came and the Morning came which we established in the last article (https://www.herbalhealingministry.org/post/should-we-follow-the-gregorian-calendar-or-the-lords) that this is the time just before the sun breaks the horizon.
Each day after the Father worked He said after he had worked all day "And the evening and the morning were the _____ day. This would indicate that the day starts with the sun coming over the horizon.

Matthew 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
Another Scripture endorsing the new day begins as the sun is cresting the horizon.

Below are quotes from the Catholic Church in their attempt to change the day of rest to Sunday.

H.F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons-QUOTE
“Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change [Saturday sabbath to Sunday] was her act…and the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things.”

Catholic Record of London, Ontario= Sept 1. 1923
Sunday is our Mark of Authority….The Church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact.”

Cardinal Gibbons, In Faith of our Fathers 92nd Edition, Pg 89
“You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we the catholic church never sanctify.”

The Catholic Mirror, Official Publication of James Cardinal Gibbons, Sept 23, 1893
“The catholic Church….By virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday.”

Our Sunday Visitor, February 5, 1950
“Protestants do not realize that by observing Sunday, they accept the authority of the spokesperson of the (Catholic) Church, The Pope.

My resolve in accepting Saturday as the 7th day of the week was established with both the Jewish community and the Catholic community agreeing that Saturday is the 7th day. That the count has been kept since the Day of Christ as he honored the 7th day in line with the Jews. Christ did not give any correction to the 7th day observed on impling that it was being observed on the correct counted day, the 7th day of the week.. (Even though sabbath was kept from creation there was a time in scripture that showed it was reestablished in the wilderness with the Lord providing manna).

Exodus 16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
5 And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. 22 And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
23 And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Plus many nations call Saturday the day of rest (see below picture).
Yes both groups could have messed up the count, but that's where faith comes in. If the Lord leads me to change then I will, but as of today I believe that Saturday is the 7th day of the week.

I will continue to observe and honor Saturday as the 7th day of the week as commanded.

Many will try to derail you from the truth having you focus on what the world renamed the 7th after as an evil god. They did the same with the Sun by naming it RA and Horus for the Moon, but this doesn't stop us from using the Sun and Moon as they were intended for, telling time, does it? No of course not, don't let others lead you astray.

Below is a pole, I encourage you to take a stand for your faith, your belief, for our creator the Father, and our Savior Christ. If we do not stand for Them, they will not stand for US. This is a two way street, that is what a Covenant means, if we give our belief and obedience the Father through the Son will give us eternal life. We are a set apart people who have the Faith OF Christ and keep his commandments. If we fail to believe and obey we will be given the 2nd death with all the wicked at the judgement, complete destruction after the 1000 year reign of Christ. There will be many that say Lord Lord did I not serve you, and he will say Depart from me for I did not know you!
We know him by our faith (actions and beliefs)
1 John 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, but the Spirit which he hath given us.
1 John 2:29 If ye now that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
1 John 2:3-5 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that are we are in him.

Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
